AAU Junior Olympic Games Report
Knoxville, TN
I have been involved with the AAU for more than 30 years and this was the first time I was able to attend the Junior Olympic Event. Can you imagine 22 sports and 19,000 athletes in one City? The largest sport was track and field followed by jump rope and then tumbling and trampoline. I was directly involved with beach volleyball, but I tried to get to see as much as possible. Right across the street from my Hotel I was able to see, table tennis, jump rope, gymnastics, cheerleading, baton twirling and wrestling. I saw several representatives from KY and really wish I could have had the opportunity to see every one. The Junior Olympic Games really opened my eyes to the fact that KY has no participation in a great deal of the sports that I saw teams and individuals going for the Gold. Congratulations to all the coaches and athletes who participated in the Junior Olympics and also special thanks to all the parents and grandpaprents who support these fine athlets all season long.
